“Then Shall the Sanctuary be cleansed”

How long was the time prophecy which was given to Daniel?

Dan 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

Dan 8:14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

What was Gabriel commanded to do?

Dan 8:16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

Note: Gabriel was commanded to explain the meaning of Daniel’s vision to him. If he didn’t explain the vision he would be a fallen angel because Gabriel was clearly told to do so.

In chapter 8 verses 1-12 Daniel is given a vision of the rise and fall of consecutive world nations through symbols of various animals. In verses 13-14 he is given in the same vision the time prophecy of the 2300 days. In verses 20-25 Gabriel completely explains each of the symbols and their meanings. In verse 26 the angel begins to explain the 2300 days but is interrupted because Daniel was overwhelmed by the vision then he fainted.

Did Daniel understand the whole vision at the end of chapter 8?

Dan 8:27 And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king’s business; and I was astonished at the vision, but none understood it.

Note: This understanding had to refer particularly to the 2300 days and the sanctuary because all the rest of the vision had been clearly explained in verses 20-25.

Did Daniel understand the vision at the start of chapter 10?

Dan 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

Note: If Daniel didn’t understand the 2300 days at the end of chapter eight but now at the beginning of chapter 10 “the time appointed” “was revealed unto Daniel” and he “had understanding of the vision”. Then it would only make sense he gained the understanding between chapters 8 & 10 right? Gabriel must have explained the 2300 days in chapter 9.

How do we know Daniel was trying to understand the time portion of the previous vision?

Dan 9:2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

Note: Daniel was studying “books” and specifically he was studying “the number of the years”. At the end of chapter 8 Daniel didn’t understand the 2300 day time prophecy but he was trying to understand it by studying the books. While studying the time portion of his vision Daniel fell upon the 70 year prophecy of Jeremiah 25:11-13, 29:10. After recognizing the reason the Jewish nation was in Babylonian captivity was because they broke the covenant and after recognizing the condition for God to restore them from their captivity was to pray a specific prayer found in Leviticus 26:40-46 then Daniel got on his knees and began praying it from Daniel 9:3-20. During his prayer he was interrupted by Gabriel.

Why did Gabriel come back to Daniel?

Dan 9:21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.

Dan 9:22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding.

Note: “the vision at the beginning” is referring to chapter 8. Dan 8:15 “And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.” Dan 8:16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.” The object of Gabriel’s mission was to make Daniel understand the vision. At the end of chapter 8 Daniel didn’t understand the vision. Before Gabriel leaves, Daniel will understand the vision.

What does Gabriel tell Daniel to do?

Dan 9:23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

Note: Gabriel wants Daniel to “consider the vision” and makes sure Daniel is thinking about the portion of the vision he didn’t understand because in the next verse Gabriel is going to explain to Daniel what he needs to know in order to “understand the matter”.

What will explain the 2300 days to Daniel?

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Note: The word Determined in the original language according to Strong’s concordance H 2852 is the word is “cut off”. So the Bible is saying 70 weeks are cut off upon Daniel’s people which are the Jews. Now if I were to “cut off” a piece of bread, then that piece is a portion of something bigger. In like manner the 70 weeks are a smaller portion “cut off” from a larger portion of something. When Gabriel says “consider the vision” the only item in “the vision” the 70 weeks could be a portion of is the 2300 days. The 70 weeks are a portion of the 2300 days dealing specifically with the Jews and Jerusalem. This is “the skill and understanding” Gabriel wanted to give Daniel. The 70 week and the 2300 days have the same starting point. In chapter 8 the 2300 day time prophecy was given without giving when it starts. But a time prophecy is useless if we don’t have a starting point. In the same chapter Gabriel was interrupted before he had a chance to establish a start date for the prophecy. Now Gabriel comes back to Daniel in chapter 9 to finish explaining the 2300 days.

Why were seventy weeks given to the Jews and Jerusalem?

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Note: Who will finish transgression? Jesus Who can make an end of sins? Jesus How will we be made reconciled for our iniquity? Jesus Who will bring in everlasting Righteousness? Jesus Who is the most holy? Jesus. This prophecy is completely about Jesus.

Since Jesus knew about this prophecy…

Mat 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

Mat 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Note: So we have 70 weeks, how many days are in a week? 7. Therefore if we needed to find the amount of days in 70 weeks –which we will in a moment–, we would need to do “seventy times seven.” No doubt Jesus was directing the disciple’s minds to this prophecy we are study now. He was showing the disciples how the 70 week prophecy was dealing with the forgiveness of the Jews and the Jewish nation as a whole. Not only that but their allotted time was about to expire.

In Bible prophecy what does a day represent?

Eze 4:6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.

Num 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

Note: God was giving the children of Israel a time prophecy and He laid down a simple principle. When dealing with prophetic time God has given us “each day for a year”. One day in prophecy represents one literal year to us. When God gives us 2300 days, a day represents a year, the prophecy is really 2300 literal years.

That also means in order to figure out how long 70 weeks in literal time is we will need to break it down into prophetic days so we can apply “each day for a year” which God gave us to interpret time prophecy. There are 7 days in a week & we have 70 weeks. “Seventy times seven” is 490 prophetic days. Each day for a year would make 490 literal years out of 2300 literal years that apply specifically to Jerusalem and the Jews.

The day for the year principle isn’t secluded only to these two verses either. It’s found throughout scripture; Jesus even knew it and taught it. For instance, about 6 months into Jesus’ ministry He made this statement, Luk 13:32 “And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.” Jesus spoke this about half a year into His ministry and we know he didn’t preach the gospel for 6 months and 3 days. We know Jesus preached the Gospel for 3 years and 6 months! Jesus was using the day for a year principle that He himself gave to His people to understand prophetic time!

When do the 2300 years & the 490 years prophecy begin?

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Note: When the commandment to restore AND build Jerusalem takes place begins the time prophecy. Another word for commandment is decree. So basically from the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem is the beginning of both prophecies. If there’s a decree to restore Jerusalem but not rebuild it that doesn’t fit the criteria so we cannot go by that decree.

When did the decree to restore and to build Jerusalem take place?

Ezr 7:7 And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

Note: According to the Margin of Ezra 7:1 this was Artaxerxes Longimanus. The seventh year of Artaxerxes Longimanus the king of Persia was 457 BC. This is one of the most easily established dates in the Bible. Artaxerxes made a commandment to restore and build Jerusalem in the Autumn of 457 BC. I would highly recommend reading the 7th chapter of Ezra because it contains the whole story of how and when Artaxerxes made the decree.

The king gives a letter to Ezra and he makes a DECREE in verses 11-13. Not only does he make a commandment to restore and rebuild Jerusalem but he even gives Ezra all of the resources Ezra needs to accomplish the decree in verses 15-17. The king even pledges to give from his own storehouse if needed in verse 20.

Basically, in the 7th year of Artaxerxes “the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem” goes forth and thus begins the 2300 year prophecy and the 70 week prophecy. Ezr 7:21 “And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,” 457 BC is our starting point for the 2300 days & 70 weeks prophecy.

Ezr 7:11 Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even a scribe of the words of the commandments of the LORD, and of his statutes to Israel. Ezr 7:12 Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time. Ezr 7:13 I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.

Ezr 6:14 And the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

What three portions of the prophecy does God section off?

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Note: God made a distinction between 7 prophetic weeks, and 62 prophetic weeks, but so far that’s only 69 weeks when the vision originally gave us 70 weeks. Where is the last week or 70th week of the prophecy? Dan 9:27 “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Obviously if so far we only have 69 weeks this 1 week is going to follow the previous weeks. Now we see sections of 7 weeks, 62 weeks, and 1 week. These are very significant because someone will happen at the end of 7 weeks, 62 weeks and 1 week.

What happened 7 prophetic weeks after 457 BC?

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Note: 7 weeks are 49 days. Remember each prophetic day is 1 literal year. Forty-nine years later will take us to 408 BC when Jerusalem was rebuilt during the time of Nehemiah. If you remember, it was to be rebuilt “even in troublous times.” when you read the book of Nehemiah you’ll find the times were so dangerous the builders would carry a sword in one hand and the building tools in the other in order to protect themselves from the invaders. The times were indeed very troublous exactly as foretold in Bible prophecy.

Who would appear after 69 weeks?

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times

Note: 69 weeks is 483 prophetic days or 483 literal years. Remember within the 70 weeks the most holy was to be anointed. Dan 9:24 “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”

If we count 69 prophetic weeks or 483 years from the Autumn of 457 BC we are going to arrive at when the Messiah would actually come. Isn’t that amazing? The Bible gives the EXACT year and season when the Messiah was going to come!

Did you know the ONLY place the word “Messiah” comes from is Daniel 9 in the prophecy of the 70 weeks? Messiah is only used twice in ALL the Bible! Each time in the New Testament when people call Jesus the “Messiah” they are referring to this prophecy of Daniel! Some people apply this prophecy to the Antichrist. But if you say this prophecy applies to the Antichrist then you have no biblical justification of saying Jesus is the promised Messiah because this is the only prophecy which speaks of “the Messiah”. But if we apply it to the Antichrist we no longer have Jesus as our Messiah.

What does Messiah mean?

According to Strong’s concordance H 4899 Messiah means anointed.

Some people think Messiah means Savior but Matthew 1:21 tells us Jesus means Savior. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” But Jesus is different from Christ. Jesus means Savior and according to Strong’s concordance G 5547 Christ means anointed.

When Jesus was speaking with the women at the well she made it clear Messiah and Christ are the same name. Joh 4:25 “The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.” Messiah is the Hebrew name and Christ is the Greek name which both mean anointed. The Bible never said Christ was Jesus’ last name. It was a title given to Him BECAUSE of this prophecy. Every time you read, hear, or say Jesus Christ, biblically that comes from the 70 week prophecy of Daniel 9.

1Jn 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

How was Jesus anointed?

Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

When Did the Holy Ghost anoint Jesus?

Joh 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

Joh 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

Joh 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

Note: The Holy Ghost anointed Jesus at his baptism. 69 weeks or 483 years from the autumn of 457 leads us to the event of Christ’s baptism in the autumn of AD 27! The Bible predicted to the very year AND season when the Messiah would come!

Right after being baptized what did Jesus preach that Sabbath?

Luk 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Luk 4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, Luk 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luk 4:20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. Luk 4:21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Note: When did the Holy Spirit anoint Jesus? At His baptism. What does Messiah mean? Anointed. Christ being the Greek word for Messiah also means Anointed.

During His baptism what were the people of God waiting in expectation for?

Luk 3:15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;

Note: They were in expectation for the Christ or Messiah to appear around the time of Jesus’ baptism.

Luk 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

Luk 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

How old was Jesus when He began His public ministry?

Luk 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

Was Jesus the Messiah at his birth?

No. Messiah means anointed. The Bible says Jesus was anointed by the Holy Ghost at his baptism when He was 30 years old. The Bible doesn’t say Jesus was anointed by the Holy Ghost at His birth. Since Messiah and Christ both mean anointed. Jesus became the Christ when He was baptized. This is why the prophecy reckons until AD 27 and not His birth. The amazing thing is, the book of Daniel was written about 600 BC and foretold this event exactly.

Indicating that Jesus came right on time, when did Paul say the Savior appeared?

Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

After Jesus was baptized what did Andrew tell his brother Simon Peter?

Joh 1:40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

Joh 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

Note: After seeing the heavens open up and hearing the voice of God the Father saying “Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” to Jesus at His baptism Andrew and his brother Peter realize Jesus is the Messiah. Remember when Jesus was asking his disciples who do people say I am? Then they said a bunch of different things? Let’s read this story.

Mat 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

Mat 16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

Then what did Jesus ask?

Mat 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

Who answered and what did he say?

Mat 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Mat 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Note: Jesus is referring back to His baptism. Peter is Andrew’s brother. When heaven opened up and God said, “Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” This is when Jesus’ “Father which is in heaven” revealed to Peter Jesus is the Christ and “the Son of the living God.” No man or human reasoning could have declared that to Peter but God did at Christ’s baptism.

Mar 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. Mar 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: Mar 1:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

After Jesus was baptized what gospel message did He begin preaching?

Mar 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

Mar 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Note: The burden of Christ’s preaching was, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Thus the gospel message, as given by the Saviour Himself, was based on prophecy. The only time that could be fulfilled around the baptism of Jesus is the very prophecy we are studying! Jesus understood this prophecy and He considered the preaching of the 2300 days and 70 weeks and an important part of the Gospel.

Why would the preaching of prophecy lead sinners to repentance and believing the Gospel?

Joh 14:29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

Note: Because Jesus gives us prophecy so we have a solid foundation to base our faith upon. God promises He will NEVER do anything without first telling us in the Word of God. Every major event not just Biblically but even historically was prophesied years in advance. One purpose of prophecy is for us to study (like we are) and see the validity & the inspiration of the Bible. God gives the students of His word prophecy so we may have sufficient evidence on which to believe.

Sometime after 69 weeks what was to happen to the Messiah?

Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Note: Don’t forget Gabriel said “seventy weeks are determined upon thy people” and we have only dealt with 69 weeks. That leaves us with the 70th week left to study. The Messiah is going to be “cut off” after 69 weeks. That means sometime during the last week of this prophecy Jesus was going to be cut off.

What does it mean to be cut off?

Gen 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. Note: This is speaking about when the earth was destroyed by a flood in the days of Noah. The Bible says “all flesh” was “cut off” by the flood.

What other word is used to describe what happened to “all flesh” by the flood?

Gen 7:20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.

Gen 7:21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:

Note: The Bible says in one place all flesh was cut off and in other place the bible says all flesh died because of the flood. Therefore for the Messiah to be cut off simply means in the 70th week Christ was going to die. But remember the prophecy says after 69 weeks will “Messiah be cut off, but not for himself”

How was He cut off but not for Himself according to this prophecy of Jesus?

Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Note: Again being cut off means your cut off from the land of the living. Jesus died not for Himself but “for the transgression of my people”. Rom 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death” But Jesus was sinless therefore He didn’t have to die. But He chose to lay down His life for you, because He considers you His friend. Joh 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Joh 15:14 “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” He died not for himself but as a ransom for you. Mat 20:28 “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” 1Ti 2:5-6 “…the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

What else was to happen during the 7oth week?

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Note: If Gabriel gave 70 weeks as a prophecy and so far in Daniel we have studied at the end of 69 weeks Jesus was to be anointed which was the Autumn of 27 AD. We have 69 weeks out of 70. That leaves an extra week not explained so far. It would only make sense this week being spoken of in this verse is the last or 70th week following after the baptism of Jesus. The Messiah was to cause the sacrifices and the oblations (which means offering, sacrifice, or worship) to stop in the middle of the last prophetic week of the 70 weeks. A prophetic week is 7 days, each day for a year would make it 7 literal years. Half of 7 years is 3.5 years. If we count 3.5 years from the Autumn of AD 27 this will bring us to the spring of AD 31.

Did anything happen in the spring of AD 31?

Jesus died in the spring of AD 31! The death of Jesus “in the midst of the week” caused “the sacrifice and the oblation to cease” because Jesus was the complete fulfillment of each of those sacrificial offerings. Each time they sacrificed the lambs they pointed to the ultimate sacrifice when Jesus would die for the sins of the world. Joh 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Even within the prophecy we read the Bible God wanted to show the Jews the meaning of the Messiah being cut off as an innocent Lamb for the forgiveness of their sins. Isa 53:7 “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” Isa 53:8 “He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.”

Because the True sacrifice and oblation died what happened in the temple?

Mat 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. Mat 27:51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

Note: The veil of the temple was rent in twain, showing that the sacredness and significance of the sacrificial service had departed. That was no ordinary curtain. It was woven 5 inches thick. There were unseen hands which were sent to tear the veil from top to bottom. The time had come for the earthly sacrifice and oblation to cease. The Jews stopped sacrificing animals when Jerusalem and the temple was destroyed in 70 AD but at Christ’s death God no longer accepted their offerings because Heb 9:28 “… Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many…”

What was Christ going to do for 1 prophetic week?

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Note: For seven years Jesus was going to “confirm the covenant with many” from AD 27 to AD 34.

What was the covenant God made that needed to be confirmed?

Gal 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

Note: A covenant is an agreement between two parties based on mutual promises. God promised to Abraham through his children God will make available justification for “all nations” by Jesus. Since the very beginning God has wanted that “all nations be blessed”. From AD 27 to AD 34 Jesus was going to “confirm the covenant with many” The covenant was first made with the Jews.

Since Jesus died in the midst of the week how could continue to confirm the covenant?

Heb 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Note: See how the Bible uses the same type of language here. The covenant was first “confirmed” by Christ’s words for 3.5 years until he died. Then confirmed “by them that heard him” which are the disciples. Through the preaching of the apostles for 3.5 years Christ continued to confirmed the covenant with many.

The covenant which was confirmed is the new covenant (i. e. the gospel). To Confirm it signifies to establish it on a firm foundation. The foundation of the gospel, is Jesus and the resurrection–see Acts xvii 18; 1 Cor. iii. 9-11; Eph. ii. 20. The gospel was established on this foundation by testimony, accompanied by miracles. as those proofs which were indispensably necessary.

What happened in 34 AD at the end of the 70 weeks?

Act 7:54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. Act 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, Act 7:56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Act 7:57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

When the people, elders, priests, and rulers of a nation plug their ears after hearing the gospel from someone whose face is glowing, that is a bad sign.

Act 7:58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul. Act 7:59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. Act 7:60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Note: The first Christian martyr, Stephen, was stoned in AD 34. The Jews hear Jesus speaking for 3.5 years they rejected Him, plotted against Him, and eventually crucified Him. But god in His long suffering and mercy used His disciples to proclaim the gospel specifically to the Jews for the next 3.5 years before the time allotted to the Jewish people ran out.

Saul began persecuting the Christians in Chapter 8 and in chapter 9 Saul gets converted and later becomes an apostle of the Gentiles.

The 3000 converts at Pentecost (Act 2:41) were all very devout Jews (Act 2:5) coming in from all over to take part in the Jewish feast days that were taking place.

Act 3:25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.

What were the Jews to accomplish during the 70 weeks?

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Note: A time of probation was given to the Jewish people for 70 weeks to take sin completely out of their lives. The only way to do this is through Jesus. Within their probation time they were to be reconciled between God and man for their iniquities. Only through Jesus are we reconciled by Christ’s “everlasting righteousness”. The most Holy was to be anointed. Messiah means anointed one. They had 70 weeks to be ready for the Messiah’s return and accept His sacrifice. But as a nation they failed to do so by rejecting Christ, crucifying Him, rejecting His disciples, and finally killing His first martyr.

What did Christ call the temple in the beginning of His ministry?

Joh 2:13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, Joh 2:14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: Joh 2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; Joh 2:16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.

What did Christ call the temple at the end of His ministry?

Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Note: Any Jew can be saved through Christ at any time, but as a nation they rejected Christ & there is no other way to be saved. When they rejected Christ, ultimately they reject God the Father, and no longer were they the people of God.

When the Gentile woman of Canaan came to Jesus what was the burden on His heart?

Mat 15:22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

Mat 15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

Mat 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Note: For the 3.5 years of Christ’s public ministry His burden was specifically on the Jewish people because He knew their time of probation was shortly about to expire. But God is merciful and ended up healing the woman’s daughter “that very hour” in verse 28.

What did Jesus command His disciples to do?

Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Note: The Gospel was exclusively preached the the Jews until the stoning of Stephen in AD 34. Then the gospel goes to the Gentiles. Christ then confirms the covenant with many. No longer are only the Jews the children of the promise or covenant but Gal 3:29 “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

What did Christ say to the Jews?

Mat 21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

What was the result of the fall of the Jews?

Rom 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. Rom 11:12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? Rom 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

Note: In Acts 7, Stephen was stoned. Saul was there at his stoning. In Acts 8, the Jews began to persecute the Christians. In Acts 9, Saul is on the road to Damascus and Christ changes his life and his name into Paul. Now he’s become “the apostle of the Gentiles”. In Acts 10, Peter has a Dream of the unclean beasts and He is ordered to eat them. While he’s trying to understand the meaning of the vision the Holy Spirit explains it to Peter and then he is led to speak the gospel to the Gentiles for the first the Gospel is ever preached a Gentile. In Acts 11, Peter explains to the other apostles what happens and they all rejoice that because of the stoning of Stephen God moved on to the Gentiles too. Then they all begin preaching the Gospel to the ends of the world.

Rom 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

Note: Some of the natural olive tree branches were broken off which were the Jews who rejected Christ. The Gentiles are the wild olive tree which are grafted in among the Jews which accepted Christ.

Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

What happens if a Jew were to stop their unbelief and accept Christ?

Rom 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.

Note: The Jews could be grafted in again because they were already cut off from being God’s people.

Rom 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

Does God want us to understand this principle?

Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Is every Jew from Israel truly of God’s Israel?

Rom 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Because someone is born a Jew does it make him a child of God?

Rom 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.

Note: If you have accepted the promise of Jesus then you “counted for the seed” even if you are naturally born a Jew.

Because one is outwardly and born Jewish is always mean he is a Jew in God’s eyes?

Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Note: If we accept Christ and are crucified with Him we become Spiritual Jews in the sight of God.

What happened after the stoning of Stephen?

Remember Dan 9:24 “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people” we now covered the end of the 70 prophetic weeks or 490 years. But our main goal is to understand the 2300 year prophecy. What is 2300 minus 490 years? The answer is 1810 years. The end of the 490 years was AD 34 so all we need to do is add 34 plus 1810 years to find the end of the 2300 days. We then come to AD 1844. The end of 2300 days is 1844.

What did the prophecy say would happen at the end of 2300 days?

Dan 8:14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

Note: The sanctuary was cleansed in 1844. We’ll get to what that means later. But if you look further in your margin or a Strong’s concordance you’ll find the original language of this verse for 2300 “days”, uses the words evenings (H 6153) and mornings (H 1242). The Bible tells us what the definition of an evening and a morning is during the first 6 times the phrase is used. Gen 1:5 …And the evening and the morning were the first day. Gen 1:8 …And the evening and the morning were the second day. Gen 1:13 …And the evening and the morning were the third day. Gen 1:19 …And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. Gen 1:23 …And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. Gen 1:31 “…And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” This is why the translators translated evening and morning into days because that’s how the Bible defines it.

Was the vision of the 2300 evening and mornings for Daniel’s time?

Dan 8:26 And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days.

Note: The vision of the 2300 days was not given for Daniel’s day. Neither was it even to be understood in Daniel’s day. The vision was actually “shut up” or sealed for “many days” before it was unsealed and understood.

What time was the vision to be for then?

Dan 8:17 So he came near where I stood: and when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision.

Note: The vision of the 2300 days was really for “the time of the end” not Daniel’s time.

What will happen at “the time of the end”?

Dan 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Note: Gabriel just told Daniel to “shut up the words, and seal the book” until “the time of the end”. So no one will be able to understand the book of Daniel properly until the time of the end. When people are able to understand the book of Daniel “Man shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”

What does it mean for people to run to and fro?

Amo 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Amo 8:12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Note: You see when someone wanders “to and fro” in the Bible that is a symbol in the Bible “to seek the word of the LORD” or studying the Bible and really searching for the truth of God. Daniel said the book of Daniel would be sealed until the time of the end but “at the time of the end: many shall run to and fro” searching and studying their Bibles and as a result, “knowledge shall be increased”. It’s a specific knowledge though. This is a knowledge of the prophecies. At the time of the end the Book of Daniel is unsealed and people are beginning to understand the prophecies including the 2300 days. Now before we look at the unsealing of the book of Daniel let’s recognize the sealing up of the vision.

What question did Daniel ask concerning the vision?

Dan 12:6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?

Note: If you were a prophet and you had a vision then you were told your vision is going to be sealed up and you can’t understand it until the time of the end what would be your very next question? Well when is the time of the end? Right? That’s exactly what Daniel asks because he wants to know when the vision will be unsealed.

At the end of what time prophecy marks “the time of the end”?

Dan 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

Note: A time in the Bible is another name for year. “a time, times, and a half” is 1 year(a time) + 2 years(times) + .5 year(and an half) which is 3.5 years. If you’re familiar with the 3.5 years, 42 months, and 1260 years prophecy then you would recall each of those prophecies are speaking of the same time period extending from AD 538 until AD 1798. Thus 1798 would begin “the time of the end”. The 2300 days could not be understood until 1798 which is “the time of the end”.

Dan 12:8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?

Dan 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Note: The man clothed in linen lifted both hands to the sky and “sware by him that liveth for ever that” the book of Daniel would be sealed and not understood “for a time, times, and an half”. Remember this imagery because this is important. Visualize this man promising this statement with both hands in the sky.

Revelation pictures a mighty angel with what in his hand?

Rev 10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

Rev 10:2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,

Note: A little book is now OPENED in his hand! This is the “little book” of Daniel. In Daniel 12, the book was sealed but Revelation 10 is describing a time in history when the prophecies of Daniel would be understood and proclaimed.

How do we know this little book is the prophetic book of Daniel?

Rev 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Notice the imagery of this mighty angel here described and the placement of his feet

Rev 10:5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, Rev 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

Note: Here we see the Angel standing upon the sea and the earth with ONE hand to the sky as he promises “by him that liveth for ever and ever”. We read this in Daniel 12 except in Daniel the man had empty hands in the sky. Now we have the mighty angel with one hand to the sky because the little prophetic book of Daniel is now open and not sealed. That’s why He is standing upon the sea and upon the earth!

What is another name for the sea?

Gen 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

Note: Another name for sea is water. The opposite of the waters is the earth.

In Bible prophecy, what do waters symbolize?

Rev 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

Rev 10:5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,

Note: The book of Daniel was to be opened in an area occupied by many nations represented by the water, and also in a sparsely-populated land represented by the earth. In 1812 the study of prophecy began in England. It soon took hold throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. Soon more than a hundred writers from a wide variety of denominations were interpreting Bible prophecy as knowledge was increased.

When the book of Daniel was still in their mouths, what would it be like?

Rev 10:8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

Rev 10:9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

What does it mean to eat the little book?

Psa 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Jer 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

Note: Eating something in prophecy is a symbol of studying the word of God and accepting the truths therein. Many people were studying the little book of Daniel and their experience was sweet as honey.

But after it was swallowed, what would happen?

Rev 10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

Note: At this time it was commonly believed that the earth was the sanctuary to be cleansed, and Jesus would come at the end of the 2300 period. No message could have been sweeter. Many gladly gave up their jobs and spent their life’s savings to spread the wonderful news. But when the date passed by and Jesus did not return, they experienced the most bitter disappointment of their lives.

Those who had experienced the bitter disappointment were told they must do what again?

Rev 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Note: Much like how the disciples of old expected the Messiah to raise an up an army, take out the Romans, then establish the Jewish nation as the kingdom of the planet (Act 1:6). Of course when the day passed by when Jesus was crucified, they experienced the most bitter disappointment of their lives caused by an misunderstanding of prophecy. But when the disciples further studied their Bibles they realized the Bible actually predicted the death of Christ first (Act 1:15-16). Then they went and prophesied again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings with Pentecostal power thus beginning the Christian church.

In the next chapter and the next verse what was to be measured?

Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

Where was the temple of God opened?

Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

Is there really a temple in heaven?

Rev 14:17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. Psa 102:19 For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth; Psa 11:4 The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. Mic 1:2 Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple. Mic 1:3 For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth.

Note: Temple, sanctuary, and tabernacle are all used synonymously. Moses used a portable tabernacle pitched from a tent while they wandered in the wilderness, Solomon built the Lord a temple, and they were each called a Sanctuary. The Bible clearly teaches us there is a Sanctuary in heaven.

What does the apostle call the temple of God in heaven?

Heb 8:2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

Note: While the earthly sanctuary was pitched by man in the wilderness. “the true tabernacle” “the Lord pitched, and not man”, God is the creator of this sanctuary.

Before building the earthly tabernacle what vision did Moses receive?

Exo 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. Exo 25:9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the abernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it. Exo 25:40 And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount. Act 7:44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.

Note: Moses was taken up mount Sinai and God showed him a pattern, a fashion, or an example of something. Moses was instructed to make the earthly sanctuary after the exact pattern and fashion of what he saw. “the tabernacle of witness” which Moses built is a witness for us in order to understand the heavenly tabernacle.

If the earthly is a pattern or a copy, then where did Moses get that pattern?

Heb 8:5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

Note: Moses was instructed to build the earthly sanctuary after the example and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary. If he didn’t make an exact replica of heaven Moses would have directly disobeyed a clear instruction to do so. The reason God gave Israel the earthly sanctuary is so we can understand how the heavenly sanctuary works. We need to understand the earthly sanctuary in order to understand what Jesus is doing in the heavenly sanctuary right NOW.

Sanctuary was Message of Salvation – God uses its services to proclaim the Gospel:

Heb 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Note: Paul is writing to the Hebrews saying “unto us was the gospel preached”. How was the Gospel preached to the Jews in the Old Testament? Through the services of the Sanctuary, God designed the whole Jewish economy to be based upon the types and figures of the sanctuary to preach the Gospel of Jesus to His people. It was because they had forgotten what the symbols within the sanctuary had represented that they rejected and refused the true Lamb of God which all the sanctuary pointed to.

How is the heavenly tabernacle rated, compared to the earthly?

Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

Note: This verse also tells us Christ is our high priest. Heb 4:14 “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.” Christ “passed into the heavens” to be our “great high priest”. Each service of the high priests in the Earthly sanctuary are there for us to understand what services Christ will do in the heavenly sanctuary and when.

For what reason did Christ resurrect?

Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Which two apartments of the earthly tabernacle did the veil divide?

Exo 26:33 And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.

Where was the mercy seat and ark of the testimony placed?

Exo 26:34 And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.

Note: “within the vail” or in the most holy place the ark of the testimony was, otherwise known as the ark of the covenant.

What is another name for the most holy place?

Heb 9:3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;

Are there two apartments in the heavenly model?

Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Note: Because the earthly sanctuary’s two apartments “are the figures of the true”, Christ “entered into the holy places” plural which is “into heaven itself”. Yes, there are two apartments in heaven and they are separated by a veil or a curtain.

Were all the instruments of the earthly also made as an exact pattern of the heavenly instruments?

Exo 25:9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

Does the heavenly sanctuary have the seven branch candlesticks?

Rev_1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

Does the heavenly sanctuary have the altar of incense?

Rev 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

Does the heavenly sanctuary have the ark of the testimony?

Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

What was made upon the ark of the Testimony round about it?

Exo 25:10 And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. Exo 25:11 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.

Why is it called the ark of the Testimony?

Exo 25:16 And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.

What is the testimony God gave to Moses?

Exo 31:18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

Note: Because the two tables of the testimony were placed inside the ark it is called the ark of the testimony. Keep in mind God’s own finger engraved the words in stone.

Why is it called the ark of the Covenant?

Deu 4:13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

Note: God engraved on two tables of stone “His covenant” with “the finger of God.” What was His covenant? “even ten commandments”. It’s also called the tables of the testimony as we read and ark just simply means box because the Ten Commandments were placed in the box, it is called the box or ark of the Covenant.

What was placed upon the ark?

Exo 25:21 And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.

What would God do from above the mercy seat?

Exo 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

Note: Inside the veil in the most holy place, sat the ark of the covenant. Above the ark and upon the mercy seat God Himself would appear by His glory sitting upon the mercy seat. Remember how the ark had a crown made around it? Who wears a crown? A king. What do you call the seat of a king? His throne. The mercy seat is a symbol of God’s throne in heaven.

Now let us look at the table of showbread!

Exo 25:23 Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood: two cubits shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

What was round about the table of showbread?

Exo 25:24 And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about. Exo 25:25 And thou shalt make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about. Exo 25:30 And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway.

Where was the Table of Shewbread placed?

Exo 26:35 And thou shalt set the table without the vail, and the candlestick over against the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south: and thou shalt put the table on the north side.

Note: “without the vail” means outside the vail that separates the holy place from the most holy place. The table of Showbread was placed outside the vail in the holy place. It’s important to recognize the table of Showbread was also set “on the north side” and also the seven branch candlestick was on the opposite side of the tabernacle “toward the south.”

Where is the city of God?

Psa 48:1 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

Psa 48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

Where is God’s throne located?

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Note: Satan had an “I” problem in heaven. He wanted to be like the most High. Who is the most High? God. He wanted to sit in God’s throne and be God himself. His plan was to sit upon “the sides of the north”. The city of God is “on the sides of the north” which means God’s throne is on the sides of the north. Remember how the Table of Showbread had a crown round about it & was put “on the north side”? That’s because the Table of Showbread was also a symbol of God’s throne in heaven. Remember the Seven Lamp Candlestick was put just before the table of showbread.

In heaven do we see the same?

Rev 4:5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Note: The “seven lamps of fire” were in the Holy Place of the sanctuary. If there was no throne in the Holy Place there could not be “seven lamps of fire be burning before the throne”. That is because the Table of Showbread represents God’s throne in the Holy Place and the Seven Branch Candlestick is just before that table. The earthly is an exact copy of the heavenly.

When Christ went into the “greater and more perfect tabernacle” which place did he enter?

Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Note: After Jesus had “obtained eternal redemption for us” by His blood Christ ascended to heaven and “entered in once into the holy place” not directly into the Most Holy place, he entered into the holy place.

Which apartment in the sanctuary did John see Jesus after he rose ascended into heaven?

Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

Rev 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

When John turned what did he see?

Rev 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

Rev 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Note: Jesus was seen “in the midst of the seven candlesticks”. We know the seven candlesticks are in the Holy Place and not the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary. John saw this vision about 60 years after Jesus ascended to heaven around AD 90. When Jesus went to heaven biblically, He was in the Holy place not the Most Holy Place yet. Also notice Jesus was wearing “a garment down to the foot”, we call that a robe. Also he was “girt about the paps with a golden girdle”. In the model sanctuary there was a specific person who wore that type of attire.

Who wore “a garment down to the foot” & and a “curious girdle?

Exo 29:5 And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat, and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the curious girdle of the ephod:

Exo 29:6 And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre.

Exo 29:7 Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.

What position in the earthly model did Aaron have?

Lev 21:10 And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;

Note: Aaron was the high priest. The high priest is the one who wears the robe that is called an ephod and the golden girdle. When Christ is seen “in the midst of the seven candlesticks” wearing the same clothing as the high priest we are seeing Jesus ministering in the heavenly sanctuary in the Holy Place after He ascends to heaven.

After Jesus’ resurrection where did He go?

Act 2:32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

Act 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

1Pe 3:22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

Mar 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Why did He go to the right hand of God after being resurrected?

Rom 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Note: He is at the right hand of God to intercede in the heavenly sanctuary above on man’s behalf. As long as Jesus is on the right hand of the Father that means Jesus is interceding for us as our High Priest.

While Jesus is ministering for us is He standing?

Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Note: No as long as Jesus ministers for us He is sitting at the right hand of the throne of God. You might be curious, how could Jesus be at the right hand of the throne of God if He didn’t go straight into the Most Holy Place where the mercy seat is? Because remember in the earthly sanctuary there are two thrones. The table of showbread has a kingly crown around it Exo 25:24-25. God’s throne is in the north side and so was the table of showbread. God doesn’t do things on accident or haphazardly God wants us to understand the Table of Shewbread is His throne. Rev 4:5 clearly says there’s a throne in the Holy Place. Jesus sat down at the right hand of God’s throne in the Holy Place. But there’s more.

How many stacks of bread was on the table of Shewbread which represents a throne?

Lev 24:5 And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake.

Lev 24:6 And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.

Lev 24:7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Note: In the “example of heavenly things” there were a total of 12 cakes or bread. Two rows were side by side. Six were placed on each row. Basically there were two piles of shewbread. Around those two piles of bread was a golden Crown. Why was there a crown around 2 piles? Because it represents in heaven Christ would sit on the right hand of God’s throne. Thus 2 piles were placed for each seat in the Holy Place. Jesus said, Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

The man called the what would build the temple of the LORD?

Zec 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:

Who is “the man whose name is the BRANCH”?

Joh 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Note: Jesus said he is the true vine. In Zec 6 Jesus is the man who will build the temple of the lord.

Besides building the temple what other two things will Jesus do?

Zec 6:13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

Note: For Christ to “sit and rule upon” the Father’s throne in the Holy Place means He acting as our priest and our intercessor.

How did Christ build the temple of the Lord?

Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. the Lord is gracious.

1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

What is this spiritual house?

1Ti 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Note: Christ built “the temple of the LORD” by “himself being the chief corner stone” and using us as “lively stones” which make up “a spiritual house” that is another name for “the church of the living God”. The temple of the Lord which God built is the Christian church that was raised after Jesus rose from the dead.

Do we have examples of people who thought Jesus would rebuild the literal temple?

Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Joh 2:20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? Joh 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

Note: There was a group of people in Biblical times that made the mistake of thinking the temple which Jesus would rebuild was the literal temple the Jews used for worship. But Jesus made it clear “He spake of the temple of his body”.

What is another name for the body of Christ?

Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:

Note: The temple is not only another name for God’s church but Christ said His body is the temple. Christ’s body is another name for the church too. Christ promised after He rose from the dead He would raise up the temple. These words were fulfilled by raising up the Christian church.

Where is Jesus Christ ministering as our high priest?

Heb 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

Heb 8:2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

Note: Up until this point in the book of Hebrews Paul has been leading us in a systematic way explaining certain points as he goes along. Right now, Paul tells us out “of the things which we have spoken this is the sum”, he wants us to understand Jesus is ministering for us “in the heavens” as our “high priest”.

Heb 8:3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.

When Christ was on earth was He our priest?

Heb 8:4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:

Note: Jesus came from the tribe of Judah. “according to the law” every priest was required to come from the tribe of Levi according to Num 18:1-2. Because Jesus didn’t come from the tribe of Levi it was impossible for Him to be a priest on earth. When Christ ascended to heaven then He began ministering in the heavenly sanctuary as our high priest.

What do the priests of the earthly sanctuary serve as?

Heb 8:5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

Note: God gave the priestly services of the earthly sanctuary as “an example and shadow of heavenly things”. If we want to understand Christ’s work as our high priest in the heavenly sanctuary who is the pattern God gave us to study? Aaron the high priest.

Before we study Aaron, how often did the common priests minister in the first tabernacle?

Heb 9:6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.

Note: At any given time there was only one High Priest. The first High Priest was Aaron and when he died his sons took his place. However, there were always many regular priest ministering in the sanctuary every day. Each day in the evenings and the mornings they would sacrifice a lamb and the common priest would accomplish the service of God “into the first tabernacle” which is another name for the Holy Place. Each day the priest would use the Holy Place.

How often would the High Priest enter the Most Holy Place?

Heb 9:7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

Lev 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

Note: Aaron the High Priest was only allowed to enter through the veil into the Most Holy Place once a year “that he die not”. If the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies any day except for that specific day he would drop dead.

The earthly sanctuary services were a symbol or parable “for the time then present”:

Heb 9:9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;

Lev 16:34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Lev_16:3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

Lev_16:4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.

What two animals were used on the Day of Atonement to cleanse God’s sanctuary and His people?

Lev 16:7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

By Casting lots, who did these two goats represent?

Lev 16:8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

Note: The goat select for the Lord = Jesus who bore on the cross the guilt and punishment of the sins of the world. The second goat represented Satan, who must ultimately take the blame of the sin problem he has created. That is why this goat is called the “scapegoat” or the “goat of removal”.

Want to leave Christ on the Cross?

If Christ doesn’t ascend into heaven to continue the ministry then we have no salvation.

Majority of the Christian world wants us to stop at the cross.
They want you to see the sacrifice on the cross but not the ministry of Jesus in heaven. What does atonement mean? Atonement: At-One-Ment with God.
Sin separates us from God The sanctuary brings us at one with God.

Lev 16:12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:

Lev 16:13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:

Why did the sanctuary need an atonement?

Lev 16:16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.

Lev 16:19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.

Lev 16:20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:

Lev 16:29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:

Lev 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

What would this make for the holy sanctuary and for the tabernacle?
Besides God’s people, what else needed to be cleansed on the day of Atonement?

Lev 16:33 And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.

Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

How often did the earthly high priest go into that apartment?

Heb 9:7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

Note: The earthly Day of Atonement which occurred “once every year” is described in Leviticus 16. The high priest would bring in blood to offer “for himself, and for the errors of the people”. This symbolized the work Jesus would begin in the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844.

What were all the people do to on that day?

Lev 16:29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:

What would this atonement do for the people?

Lev 16:30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

It was necessary also that the patterns and heavenly things themselves should be what?

Heb 9:23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

Note: The heavenly sanctuary needed to be purified with better sacrifices. Purify means to clean. The heavenly sanctuary needed to be cleaned with better sacrifices. The better sacrifice was the blood of Jesus Christ.

In one word, what was to be done to the sanctuary at the end of the “2300 days”?

Dan 8:14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

Dan 7:8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

Dan 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

Dan 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

Sometime after the little horn the judgment will come.

What happened in Daniel’s vision of the judgment?

Dan 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

Note: This movement of Christ does not describe His coming to the earth, but rather to “the Ancient of days.” The same scene is described by the prophet Malachi.

Rev 10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Notice the question that is asked, and its answer:

Mal 2:17 Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

Mal 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Note: Revelation 10 describes the bitter disappointment of those who expected Jesus to come in 1844. When He did not come, their question was, “Where is the God of judgment?” The Bible’s answer was, “The Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple.” Jesus moved in 1844 into the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary to begin His work of investigative judgment, His final work before coming to earth to receive His bride. From Daniel 8:19 we learned that the sanctuary would be cleansed “at the time appointed.” Commenting on that, Paul says, Act 17:31 “Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” The time appointed for the judgment was the fulfillment of the 2300 days.

What is the Lord’s work during this time?

Mal 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1Co 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

Rev 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

The coming of Christ as our high priest to the most holy place, for the cleansing of the sanctuary, brought to view in Daniel 8:14; the coming of the Son of man to the Ancient of Days, as presented in Daniel 7:13; and the coming of the Lord to His temple, foretold by Malachi, are descriptions of the same event; and this is also represented by the coming of the bridegroom to the marriage, described by Christ in the parable of the ten virgins, of Matthew 25. {GC 426.1}

Lev 23:27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

Lev 23:28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

Lev 23:29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.

Lev 23:30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

Lev 23:31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

Lev 23:32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Act 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Act 11:19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

Act 11:20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

When the work of cleansing the heavenly sanctuary is finished, what will be poured out upon the earth?

Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

Rev 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

Rev 15:5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:

Rev 15:6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.

Rev 15:7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.

Rev 15:8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

Rev 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

Dan 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

What will be the standard in the judgment?

Jas 2:12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Jas 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

Which law is this speaking about?

Jas 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

What is the whole duty of man?

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Why is it our duty to keep his commandments?

Ecc 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Note: “keep his commandments…is the whole duty of man” because we will be judged by the law.

What will we be judged by?

Rom 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

Which law is this?

Rom 2:21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?

Rom 2:22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

Rom 2:23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?

Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

Mat 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

What is the purpose of the heavenly sanctuary?

Isa 59:1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Sin, Iniquity, Transgression, separates us from God.

Adam and Eve sinned and they hid themselves, they were terrified only hearing of the voice of God. Sin separates us no longer could they have face to face worship with God.

What is the point of the heavenly Sanctuary?

1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

When you sin you break the law of God.

What is the law of God?

Exo 34:27 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

Exo 34:28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Sin is when we break the covenant.

When break the covenant it separates us from God.

Exo 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

Sin separates us from God.

But God said he gives us the sanctuary so he can be with his people.

Something about the sanctuary deals with the problem of Sin.
